The Seattle Seawolves will have the services of Kellen Gordon for the 2022 Major League Rugby season after all. In a similar story to the one that saw Tim Metcher making an about-face and returning to the club, Gordon turned away from thoughts of retirement to lace up the boots for another year.
Gordon played just one match during the 2021 season and was subsequently appointed Director of Rugby for Seattle Rugby Club. As revealed in a statement on social media, a conversation with Seawolves coach Allen Clarke convinced him to come back for a fifth MLR campaign.
“Last year I suffered a season ending injury during our first match against Houston. With a third kid arriving with Spina Bifida, 6-8 months worth of rehab, and feeling pretty burnt out overall – I thought it might be time to hang up the boots.
“Playing with Seattle Rugby Club this Fall reignited the passion I have for this sport. Speaking to Clarkie about the new direction also inspired me to come back for another season. I’m excited for the opportunity to hunt for a third MLR Shield!”
The 33-year-old loosehead is the fourth prop confirmed by the Seawolves for 2022. South African arrival Mzamo Majola also plays loosehead while Metcher and New Zealand import Sam Matenga will anchor the scrum at tighthead. James Malcolm is the only hooker named to date.
