Argentine back Matías Freyre leaves Houston for San Diego

San Diego has found their replacement for Dylan Audsley. Argentine utility back Matías Freyre will join the Legion for the 2022 Major League Rugby season, making the move after two seasons in Houston.

Like Audsley, Freyre is comfortable playing at center, wing, or fullback, though it’s at the latter where he was most often utilized by the SaberCats. The 27-year-old started the first five games in the No15 shirt this past season but then missed the rest of the campaign with injury.

Freyre, notably, is potentially Eagles-eligible under the new Union Transfer regulation having been born in Kansas City. He last played for the Pumas Sevens side in April of 2018, meaning he has already fulfilled the three-year stand-down period required. This should qualify him as a domestic player in MLR.
