Houston signs South African wing prospect Marcell Muller

Houston has added another rising star from South Africa to their roster ahead of the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Marcell Muller joins the SaberCats from the Cheetahs, having recently made his professional debut for the provincial team playing alongside USA scrumhalf Ruben de Haas.

Muller is just 20 years old and is a product of the esteemed Grey College in Bloemfontein. The winger spent a season in France with Montpellier’s academy side before returning to the Free State. An imposing figure at 6’2″ (1.87m) and 225lbs (102kg), Muller was also a track athlete who competed at the national level in the 200m and 400m sprints.

The incoming South African contingent has now expanded to nine players. Muller was preceded by back rows Jaco Bezuidenhout, Willie Britz, and Gideon van Wyk, halfbacks Dillon Smit, David Coetzer, and Kian Meadon, inside center Louritz van der Schyff, and outside back Gerrie Labuschagne.
