Americas Players who could reach 100 caps in 2022

No player has earned 100 test caps for a country from the Americas. This may change in 2022. Three players are closing in on the mark of 100 test caps for their country. The players are all South Americans and at least one of them is expected to earn his 100th cap this year.

The players that could reach 100 test caps in 2022 are Uruguayan Diego Magno, and Pumas Agustín Creevy and Nicolás Sánchez. Magno is the most capped Americas player of all time. Depending on Uruguay’s test schedule, Magno’s 97 caps may become 100 in July.

Creevy was Argentina’s most capped player in 2019. His most recent cap was his 89th. Sánchez has since overtaken Creevy to now be the most-capped Puma with 93 caps. There is reason to believe that Creevy will be back playing for Argentina in 2022.

Los Pumas will play 12 test matches in 2022. If Creevy plays in 11 of the 12 he will reach 100 caps in 2022. If Sánchez appears in 7 of the 12 he will reach the mark.

While no Puma has reached the mark of 100 test caps there are two Argentine players who have more than 100 caps for Italy. Sergio Parisse has 142 caps and may earn more. Martín Castrogiovanni retired with 119 caps to his name. Both Parisse and Castrogiovanni learned their rugby in Argentina.

What about in 2023? Are there other Americas players who could reach 100 caps before or at the World Cup in France? There are Argentine and Uruguayan test players who have 70 or more caps. Some of them may thus have 90 or more caps in time for the World Cup.

The following tables detail the active test players from the Americas with 70 or more caps. They are limited to two countries. Canada’s most capped active test player is Djustice Sears-Duru with 60 caps. This is two more than Cam Dolan who is the most capped active Eagle with 58 caps. Brazil’s Moisés Duque has 61 caps and is the only current Tupis player with more than 50 caps. Chile also does not have a player close to reaching 100 caps in 2022.
