2022 started well for Juan Cruz Mallía. The Pumas utility back was a try scorer for Toulouse in the New Year’s Day away match against Clermont. The 5th minute try was Toulouse’s only try of the match. Clermont were 16-13 winners.
Mallía ran an angle to receive the pass and go through a gap. He then attracted defenders while passing to Pita Ahki. He did so while staying on his feet to then get a return pass from Ahki and touch the ball down in the try zone.
The Córdoba back played the match on the right wing. His usual position is at outside center; this is where he scored in the European Champions Cup Final in 2021. His played in seven test matches for Argentina in 2021. Six of them saw him starting at fullback.
