Free Jacks sign SaberCats flyer Paula Balekana

The New England Free Jacks are putting the finishing touches on their roster for the 2022 Major League Rugby season with the signing of Fijian winger Paula Balekana. He makes the move east from Houston, having spent the 2021 campaign on the books for the SaberCats.

Having previously spent two years in Italy with Zebre, Balekana was a standout in his first season of MLR. The 28-year-old started all 16 games for Houston, playing a league-leading 99.7% of all possible minutes. He also led the SaberCats with 6 tries scored.

Balekana looks set to combine with USA Selects representative Harry Barlow on the wings for the Free Jacks this coming season. Other options include returning backs Dougie Fife and Mitch Wilson, and new signings Cael Hodgson and Zach Bastres. The latter has been signed on a development contract.
