Joe Pietersen re-signs as Legion add preseason games

Joe Pietersen will return for a fifth season with the San Diego Legion. The 37-year-old flyhalf joins fellow South African Bjorn Basson in committing for the 2022 Major League Rugby campaign.

Pietersen’s 2021 campaign was disrupted by injury limiting him to just 9 of 16 games. He maintained his position as San Diego’s leading points scorer by adding two tries, 17 conversions, 8 penalty goals, and a pair of drop goals to his total.

Meanwhile the Legion have added two preseason games to their fixture list. Both are home games to be played at the SDSU Sports Deck. The first opponent will be the Austin Gilgronis on Friday, January 21, with the defending champion LA Giltinis visiting on Friday, January 28.
