Urdapilleta kicks Castres to late win over Perpignan

Castres defeated Perpignan 20-19 earlier today. The Top 14 match seemed like a test match. The visiting side claimed the late win with a penalty from Argentine Benjamín Urdapilleta. It was Urdapilleta’s 150th match for Castres.

The former Pumas fly half landed a perfect 4/4 for Castres. In addition to kicking all his goals, Urdapilleta organized play well. Urdapilleta was joined by Santiago Arata. The Uruguayan serum-half was a replacement for Castres.

The win moves Castres up to 4th position in the Top 14 standings. Perpignan claimed a bonus point in the loss and remain in 15th position and in the relegation zone.

Jerónimo de la Fuente and Bautista Delguy both started for Perpignan. Unlike, Urdapilleta the players both played for Los Pumas in 2021 and also in 2020. Urdapilleta’s most recent cap was at RWC 2019.

Argentina have problems in the position of fly half. Nicolás Sánchez and Domingo Miotti both started before being dropped in the 2021 Rugby Championship. Mario Ledesma opted to move Santiago Carreras from fullback to fly half. Carreras played six consecutive test matches at fly half. He plays wing for Gloucester.
