Tiaan Loots re-signs for San Diego Legion

Tiaan Loots has re-signed with the San Diego Legion for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old was a regular starter at inside center after arriving part-way through the 2021 campaign. He lined up for the SaberCats in 2020 but was released by Houston and left without a club to start the year.

Long-term injuries to Josh Thiel and Dylan Audsley left San Diego short in the midfield and they snapped up the South African ahead of their Week 7 match against the LA Giltinis. Loots would go on to start all but two of the Legion’s remaining matches.

San Diego remain among the league’s slowest teams in terms of roster announcements during the off-season. Only nine players have been formally confirmed to date for the new campaign in addition to Chris Robshaw’s existing contract and the three players chosen in the Collegiate Draft.
