Rugby New York signs Kalolo Tuiloma and Jack Heighton

Kalolo Tuiloma is returning to Major League Rugby with Rugby New York in the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The giant prop will be joined in the big apple by another New Zealander in North Harbour and former Blues squad flyhalf Jack Heighton.

Tipping the scales in excess of 300lbs (136kg), Tuiloma was a frightening proposition for defenders when he suited up for the Utah Warriors in 2020. In the time since the 31-year-old has lined up for Northland and most recently Counties Manukau. He also played four times for Samoa, twice against the New Zealand Māori and twice in World Cup Qualifying matches against Tonga.

Heighton remains something of an unknown despite being contracted to the Blues for the 2020 Super Rugby season. The 22-year-old, who can also operate at inside center or fullback, has played a handful of games for North Harbour across the past two seasons. He joins a pair of MLR veterans in Harry Bennett and Sam Windsor as flyhalf options, though both are also comfortable at other positions.
