Free Jacks sign promising Taranaki hooker Mills Sanerivi

The New England Free Jacks have found their replacement for Vili Toluta’u in a young man from New Zealand with similar style and proportion. Mills Sanerivi has made two starts recently in the back row for Taranaki but arrives in Boston as a dynamic ball-carrying hooker option.

A former captain of the prestigious King’s College school in Auckland, Sanerivi has also led Taranaki age-grade sides and this year broke into the province’s senior professional squad. The 22-year-old was recently honored with selection to the New Zealand Barbarians, coached by British & Irish Lions supremo Warren Gatland. Sanerivi has signed on through the 2023 season.

With incumbent starter Pieter Jansen also returning and Canadian international Foster DeWitt another new addition, hooker will be a position of strength for the Free Jacks. There will be a familiar face waiting Sanerivi in Boston in the form of Joe Johnston, a former teammate at King’s College.
