SaberCats sign South African flyhalf prospect Kian Meadon

The Houston SaberCats have added a second South African age-grade flyhalf to their roster for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Having already secured 22-year-old David Coetzer, the club have now signed 20-year-old Kian Meadon. Both have represented South Africa at u20 level.

A product of the renowned Paarl Boys High School program, Meadon’s provincial age-grade rugby began with Western Province and he more recently turned out for the Sharks in this year’s national u20 Cup tournament. In 2019 he was selected to the South Africa Schools side and earlier this year played for the Junior Boks that competed against the u20 sides from Argentina, Georgia, and Uruguay.

Meadon can also play fullback and is a highly regarded goal kicker. Along with Coetzer, the SaberCats have previously confirmed the return of Canadian international Robbie Povey who can play flyhalf or fullback. Twice-capped USA Eagles fullback Zach Pangelinan is also returning for a fifth season in Houston.
