Old Glory signs Auckland midfielder William Talataina

Old Glory DC have announced the signing of versatile midfielder William Talataina for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old makes the move from the Ponsonby club in Auckland’s premier division. He is set to reunite with former Auckland and Ponsonby teammate Danny Tusitala in DC.

Talataina earned selection to the New Zealand u19 squad in 2014 and would represent Samoa in the Junior World Championship that same year. After making his provincial debut with Southland in 2017 he suited up for Samoa ‘A’ in the 2018 Pacific Challenge, and in 2020 played for Auckland in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Though primarily an inside center, Talataina is also comfortable at flyhalf or outside center. He is also a capable goal kicker and was notably selected as men’s sevens player of the year for Auckland in 2019.

At the same time Old Glory have confirmed the signing of hooker or back row Rob Irimescu from Rugby New York. The 25-year-old Collegiate All-American made 13 appearances, all as a replacement, across his two seasons with the club.
