Arrows sign former Spain flyhalf Andrew Norton

The Toronto Arrows have announced the signing of former Spain flyhalf Andrew Norton for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. At the same time the club has confirmed one-year extensions for No8 Siaki Vikilani and midfielder Mitch Richardson.

Originally from South Africa, Norton developed in the Sharks age-grade system and played for the University of Cape Town in the Varsity Cup. He signed with Cisneros in 2015 and won three caps for Spain in 2019 after qualifying on residency. Norton then spent two seasons with Aparejadores before moving to Toronto and joining the Balmy Beach Club.

The 31-year-old recently lined up at inside center and scored two tries for the Arrows XV that defeated the Atlantic Selects at York Lions Stadium in October. Though much of his professional career has been in the No10 shirt, Norton is also comfortable in the midfield or at fullback and is a capable goal kicker.

Vikilani and Richardson also played in the match against the Selects, with the former scoring one try and the latter a double. This will be the fourth MLR campaign for the 25-year-old Richardson with his 8 appearances in 2021 a career high.

Injuries disrupted much of Vikilani’s first year as a professional, limiting him to just two MLR appearances. He recovered in time to make his test debut for Canada against Wales in July, and the 21-year-old started 7 games before missing the final match of the year against Belgium.
