Free Jacks tie in South African prop Herman Agenbag

The New England Free Jacks have announced the signing of tighthead prop Herman Agenbag on a three-year deal through the 2024 Major League Rugby season. Just 21 years old, he is a product of the prestigious Grey College in Bloemfontein and has represented South Africa at u18 level.

Agenbag played for the Free State Cheetahs at u18 level before making the move to Johannesburg to join the Golden Lions in 2019. He made one appearance in the SuperSport Challenge that year and for the past two years has turned out for the University of Johannesburg in the Varsity Cup. After winning the South African u21 championship with the Lions earlier this year Agenbag made his Currie Cup debut on loan with the Valke against Eastern Province in July.

New England now have eight props on their roster for the 2022 campaign including fellow newcomers Tevita Sole, Alex Johnston, and Collegiate Draft pick Anthony Adamcheck. Returning from the 2021 season are Erich de Jager, Quentin Newcomer, Kyle Ciquera, and Spencer Krueger.
