The New England Free Jacks have signed two props for the upcoming Major League Rugby season. Tongan age-grade international Tevita Sole joins on a three-year deal running through 2024, with Alex Johnston signed for one season. Both arrive from New Zealand.
Sole represented Tonga at the 2019 World Rugby u20 Trophy tournament. The 22-year-old is equally at home on either side of the scrum and has most recently been part of the Bay of Plenty squad under new Free Jacks forwards coach Mike Rogers.
Johnston, 26, is the older brother of returning Free Jacks flanker Joe Johnston. Both are eligible for the USA through their Boston-born mother. The elder Johnston has been playing for the Te Puke club, also in the Bay of Plenty region, and previously lined up for Lincoln University.
Meanwhile the club has confirmed the departure of Sef Fa’agase, who is set to resume his Super Rugby career in Australia. He started 11 games at loosehead prop for the Free Jacks in his first and only MLR campaign this past year.
