Former Junior Springbok flyhalf David Coetzer joins Houston

The Houston SaberCats have confirmed the signing of flyhalf David Coetzer for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Arriving from South Africa, the 22-year-old represented the Junior Springboks at the 2018 and 2019 World Rugby u20 Championships.

Coetzer has developed in the Blue Bulls age grade program. He led their u21 side to a national title in 2020. This past may he won a prestigious Varsity Cup title with the University of Pretoria. Also known as the Tuks, he played alongside another SaberCats recruit in back row Jaco Bezuidenhout.

A product of Selborne College school in East London, Coetzer is noted for his dynamic attacking ability. He now looks set to wear the No10 shirt for the SaberCats, a position largely filled by Sam Windsor since 2018. The latter has confirmed his departure to an Eastern Conference team.
