Andrew Ferguson among three Arrows extensions

The Toronto Arrows have confirmed contract extensions for three more players ahead of the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Canadian international Andrew Ferguson headlines the trio with flanker Marcello Wainwright and winger Johnny Sheridan also returning for a fourth MLR campaign with the club.

Ferguson, 29, competed with Jamie Mackenzie for the starting scrumhalf role in 2019 and 2020. This past year he saw newcomer Ross Braude taking control of the No9 shirt but a late-season surge in form, including a Man-of-the-Match performance against Old Glory, could see him challenging the younger Braude for a the starting job in 2022.

Injuries have frustrated Wainwright for the past two campaigns. After playing 15 games in 2019 he missed the entirety of the shortened 2020 season and made just four appearances in 2021. Now fully recovered, the 25-year-old flanker will be aiming for more game time in a highly competitive back row group.

Sheridan did not initially travel with the team to Atlanta but arrived late in the season to start the last five games of the 2021 campaign. The 27-year-old has been a reliable performer when called upon with 13 appearances and 10 starts since the inaugural 2019 season.
