SaberCats sign Eagles lock Siaosi Mahoni from Legion

The Houston SaberCats have added considerable bulk to their forward pack with the signing of USA Eagles lock Siaosi Mahoni from the San Diego Legion. At 6’8″ (2.03m) and 295lbs (134kg) the East Palo Alto native is among the largest players in Major League Rugby.

Mahoni has been with the Legion since their inception though injuries limited his game time in both 2018 and 2019. He played all five games for San Diego in the 2020 season and featured in 10 games this past year. The 24-year-old was recalled to the USA squad this year and has now won 5 caps after appearing in three tests as a replacement.

Houston have yet to confirm a single returning forward with six newcomers signed in addition to Collegiate Draft picks Emmanuel Albert and Tinashe Muchena. Mahoni follows Keni Nasoqeqe from the Legion to the SaberCats, with other additions including Danny Barrett, Jaco Bezuidenhout, Willie Britz, and most recently Gideon van Wyk.
