Argentina will have three home test matches against Scotland in July 2022. The three match series will be historic; never before have Scotland toured Argentina for so many matches. The Northern British test team’s prior tours to Argentina have been for one or two test matches.
The tour will see Los Pumas playing on home soil for the first time since 2019. Venues for the three match series will be announced at a future date. What is official for now is that Scotland’s three matches in Argentina will be played on July 02, July 09, and July 16.
Los Pumas’ home matches against Scotland will be 50% of Argentina’s matches at home for the year. Three Rugby Championship games are to be played in Argentina. The first will be against Australia on August 06. That match will take place in the western Argentine city of San Juan.
Additional home matches will be on August 13 and September 14. The August 14 match will be the second 2022 Rugby Championship match between Argentina and Australia. Argentina’s final home match will be against South Africa. As such, Argentina will face the All Blacks twice in New Zealand and the Springboks once in South Africa.
Scotland’s tour is officially set for three matches. This means that Uruguay will not have the opportunity of facing Scotland. Los Teros’ July Internationals remain unconfirmed. Chile will face the USA in home-and-away Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifiers in July 2022.
There have been eight prior test matches between Los Pumas and Scotland in Argentina. The first two were in Buenos Aires in June 1994. Argentina won the two match series 2-0, doing so by winning the matches 16-15 and 19-17. Scotland’s next visit was in 2008. Argentina won 21-15 in Rosario while Scotland were 26-14 winners in Buenos Aires.
Scotland claimed history in 2010 by winning the two match series 2-0. Scotland won 24-16 in Tucumán and 13-9 in Mar del Plata. Scotland won again in June 2004, this time claiming a 21-19 victory in Córdoba. The most recent match saw Scotland hammering Argentina 44-15 in Resistencia.
Argentina’s most recent win over Scotland was in Wellington, New Zealand. The South Americans won 13-12 in a vital pool match at RWC 2011. Four years earlier the teams met in Paris, France. Argentina were 19-13 winners in a Rugby World Cup Quarter Final.
