Americas Rankings – November 21, 2021

The Americas Rankings is an exclusive on Americas Rugby News. The rankings compare the men’s test teams from throughout the Americas. Matches recognized as caps are used for the rankings. Teams yet to compete since the Americas Rankings began are listed with 30.00 points.

The Americas were represented by Brazil, Chile and Uruguay on Saturday and Argentina on Sunday. The return was one win and three losses. Chile’s win over Russia was not only the high point of the week but, arguably, also of the month of November for the Americas.

Brazil were winless in their test matches in Africa. Os Tupis ought to have done a lot better against both Zimbabwe and Kenya. The losses correspond to falls in the rankings. Brazil have lost 1.433 points to fall from 54.76 points to 53.32.

Chile’s win over Russia sees a gain in the rankings. Los Cóndores obtained +1.832 by beating the Bears in what was an away match. As a result Chile are up one place in the world rankings; they overtake the Netherlands. Brazil’s losses this month also see Chile furthering their position as 5th in the Americas Rankings.

Uruguay’s 17-10 defeat against Italy represented a 0.361 loss in the rankings for Uruguay. As such Uruguay are down from 66.76 to 66.40 points. This c includes the year 2021 with Argentina and the USA ranked as the top two in the Americas ahead of Uruguay.

Argentina ended the year on a sour note. The loss against Ireland was by a record margin. Many questions remain unanswered. In terms of the Americas Rankings, Argentina’s performance sees the test side dropping 0.227 points.  This combined with Wales’ controversial win over Australia sees the team’s trading places with Wales up to 8th and Argentina down to 9th in the world to conclude 2021.

The Americas Rankings will be recalculated again following the completion of international competition next week. Chile face Russia in the second test match on Friday.
