Tim Metcher’s days in Seattle aren’t over after all. The veteran prop announced his departure from the Seawolves at the end of the 2021 season but has made an about-face and re-signed with the team for a fifth season. He joins fellow ‘originals’ Nakai Penny and Riekert Hattingh in returning for 2022.
It’s welcome news for the Starfire faithful, who have become used to seeing Metcher run out in the No3 shirt for Seattle. Across four seasons to date the 30-year-old Australian has made 46 appearances, good enough for second-most in Major League Rugby behind fellow tighthead prop Angus MacLellan of Utah.
Metcher is the first prop signed by Seattle for the upcoming season and the second front rower following hooker James Malcolm. Canadian internationals Djustice Sears-Duru and Jake Ilnicki have moved on while the status of former Eagles loosehead Huluholo Mo’ungaloa remains unconfirmed.
Dreams do come true. 🥺
