Ryan Matyas has signed on for a fifth season with the San Diego Legion. The 30-year-old outside back is one of nine players who were part of the team during the inaugural 2018 campaign who have appeared in each year since through the 2021 season.
With 14 appearances this past year including 6 starts and 6 tries scored, Matyas now has 36 MLR caps with 26 starts and 11 tries across his four seasons to date. Though he was most often used off the bench by San Diego, his strong form earned a recall to the USA Eagles side against Canada and New Zealand.
The Legion have already confirmed the return of prop Nathan Sylvia for a fifth season, with other re-signings including hooker Peter Malcolm and flanker Michael Smith. Former All Blacks star Ma’a Nonu has returned after a year’s hiatus and there are new additions in US Eagles fullback Will Hooley and draft picks Thomas Capriotti, Jonah Dietenberger, and Dominick Iacovino.
