Robbie Povey signs SaberCats extension

Robbie Povey has signed a one-year extension with the Houston SaberCats that runs through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. It’s the second year in Texas for the 25-year-old Canadian international. He spent his first MLR campaign in 2020 with the Utah Warriors.

After a three-year hiatus from test rugby, Povey rocketed back into contention for Canada with some sterling attacking form with the Cats. He notably scored two tries against eventual champions LA in Week 5, following it up with a hat-trick against the Warriors in Week 6.

Povey was used primarily at his preferred position of flyhalf by Houston in 2021 though he also spent time at fullback. This past season saw him making 12 appearances in including 9 starts. He won seven caps for Canada this year to bring his total to 11 since debuting in 2017.
