NOLA Gold have acquired scrumhalf Devereaux Ferris and utility back Aaron Matthews in a trade from the Seattle Seawolves. The Gold also receive salary cap considerations in the deal, with a foreign player spot heading to the Seawolves in exchange.
Once-capped USA international Ferris joined the Seawolves from the San Diego Legion in 2021. He appeared in all 16 games for Seattle this past season with 6 starts. The 27-year-old joins Namibia international Damian Stevens and 2nd round Collegiate Draft pick Christian Alvarez as primary scrumhalf options for the Gold in 2022.
Matthews, 24, made 11 appearances including 5 starts in his first season as a professional after being selected 5th overall in the 2020 Draft from Saint Mary’s. The USA u20 international covered both center and wing for Seattle. He is also capable of playing flyhalf and fullback.
