New York trades Will Leonard to Rugby ATL

Rugby United New York center Will Leonard has been traded to Rugby ATL. Neither team has announced the other side of the deal, though New York have confirmed that the deal is separate from that which sent Evan Mintern from the Big Apple to The Snake Pit last month.

Leonard has been a staple in New York’s starting lineup since arriving ahead of the 2019 season. The 26-year-old from Limerick played 16 of 17 games this past season, 14 of them starts, to bring his total to 31 Major League Rugby appearances to date.

ATL bolsters their midfield after seeing both Bautista Ezcurra and Robbie Petzer during the offseason. Ryan Nell, Mark O’Keeffe, Jeremy Misailegalu, and Te Rangatira Waitokia were other midfield options in 2021. Lui Sitama was acquired from the Austin Gilgronis but did not make an appearance.
