Houston signs Eagles winger Christian Dyer

USA international Christian Dyer has signed on with the Houston SaberCats for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old outside back is the third current Eagles Sevens team member now committed to AVEVA Stadium following Danny Barrett and Matai Leuta.

Dyer was selected by Rugby United New York in the supplementary draft but did not join the team in 2021, opting instead to train at Chula Vista in an attempt to make the Olympic team. Though he was ultimately left out of the roster for Tokyo, Dyer received a surprise call-up to the USA’s tour of England and Ireland and played in both matches in July.

All six of Dyer’s test caps to date have been on the wing but it was at outside center where he earned Collegiate All-American honors with the Cal Golden Bears. Scrumhalf pair Dillon Smit and Nick Boyer, and fullback Zach Pangelinan are the only other backs confirmed to date by Houston for next season. Leuta is an option at center or wing.
