Free Jacks sign Varsity Cup standout Le Roux Malan

The New England Free Jacks have signed midfielder Le Roux Malan on a three-year deal through the 2024 Major League Rugby season. Born in Windhoek, Namibia, the 22-year-old grew up in South Africa and was identified as a standout with the University of Cape Town in the Varsity Cup.

In addition to playing for UCT, Malan came through the Natal Sharks age-grade system after graduating from the renowned Paarl Boys High School in Cape Town. He was part of the Sharks squad during the 2019 SuperSport Rugby Challenge.

Standing 6’3″ (1.91m), Malan is an imposing physical presence with strong offloading ability. He is most at home at inside center and joins another South African arrival in Wayne van der Bank and England u20 international Jack Reeves as primary midfield options for the Free Jacks in 2022.
