Exeter Chiefs sign Pumas flanker Santiago Grondona

Exeter Chiefs have signed Pumas flanker Santiago Grondona for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. The English Premiership finalists have snapped up the 23-year-old to cover for the continued absence of South African back row Jacques Vermeulen due to a hamstring injury.

It’s the second Premiership contract for the Champagnat product from Buenos Aires, who joins Facundo Cordero at the club. Grondona signed for Newcastle in December along with Mateo Carreras but was unable to play a game for the Falcons after suffering a knee injury in training.

After recently returning to fitness Grondona played in one game for the Argentina XV in the Americas Pacific Challenge before joining Los Pumas for their European tour. He is currently with the squad preparing for the test against Italy on Saturday.
