Dallas Jackals sign Canadian hooker Dewald Kotze

The Dallas Jackals have announced the signing of Canadian hooker Dewald Kotze for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. He arrives from the Pacific Pride, Canada’s centralized development program, who have most recently been competing in BC’s Coastal Cup.

Kotze, 24, is originally from Kriel, South Africa, but moved to Edmonton at the age of 14 and played for the Strathcona Druids clubs. He represented Canada at the 2017 World Rugby u20 Trophy in Montevideo, packing down alongside recent Dallas signing Liam Murray.

Though he has yet to make his test debut, Kotze was included in the November 2020 Senior Men’s High Performance Camp and was also on the 40-man longlist for the UK tour this past July. He is the first hooker named by the club on a senior MLR deal. Matt Frings has signed a development contract.
