Six new names training with USA Sevens ahead of World Series

Six uncapped players have been called up by USA Eagles coach Mike Friday ahead of the upcoming World Sevens Series. The team has arranged a series of scrimmages against Canada this week to prepare for the first tournament of the new season in Dubai later this month.

Training with the squad are Aaron Cummings, Chase Schor-Haskin, Lucas Lacamp, Logan Tago, Aki Raymond, and D’Montae Noble. Lacamp, a standout collegiate player at UCLA, represented Hong Kong at the 2019 World Rugby u20 Trophy tournament.

Five of the six have Major League Rugby connections. Noble and Tago played for Old Glory DC and the Utah Warriors respectively this past season while Aki Raymond was an extended squad member for Rugby United New York. Aaron Cummings is part of the Houston SaberCats academy while Chase Schor-Haskin was recently acquired by NOLA Gold after being selected by New York in the 2021 Collegiate Draft.

Tago’s inclusion is particularly notable. The former Seattle Seahawks and Montreal Alouettes signing earned MVP honors at the inaugural Premier Rugby Sevens event in Memphis last month. Remarkably it was the first ever sevens tournament for the 24-year-old born in American Samoa.

Unable to train due to injury were Jack Wendling, Adam Channel, Jerome Nale, and Shawn Clark. The former is expected to return to contention in January with the others longer-term absentees. Alex Wormer, David Still, Corey Jones, and Coleson Warner were unavailable for the training camp.
