National Rugby League veteran Will Chambers is set to join the LA Giltinis on a two-year deal, according to multiple reports from Australian media. The 33-year-old center has been targeted as a replacement for Adam Ashley-Cooper who confirmed his retirement after lifting the MLR Shield in 2021.
Chambers has been a professional since 2007 and spent the bulk of his career with the Melbourne Storm. He also represented Queensland in the State of Origin and played 7 times for Australia between 2015 and 2017. Most recently Chambers was on a short-term contract with Cronulla Sharks.
Rugby union will not be entirely new to Chambers. He spent two seasons in Super Rugby with the Queensland Reds beginning in 2010, and also had brief spells with Munster in 2011 and Suntory in the Japan Top League last year where he played alongside Matt Giteau.
At 6’3″ (1.90m) and 220lbs (100kg) Chambers is in imposing figure who should slot in beside the returning Bill Meakes in the Giltinis midfield. The reports also indicate that Giteau is set to play on for a second season of Major League Rugby after flirting with his own retirement.
