The Argentina XV showed no mercy against Paraguay ‘A’ today, scoring a whopping 22 tries with the final score reading 146-7. An unbalanced result was expected but it was a red card to Paraguayan lock Alejandro Montiel in the 8th minute for a head-on-head clearout of Argentine scrumhalf Joaquín Pellandini that pushed the score into uncomfortable territory.
Two tries were already on the books when Montiel was sent from the field, and by halftime the score was a staggering 80-0. Hooker Ignacio Ruiz finished a hat-trick inside the first half and added a fourth early in the second. Fullback Gerónimo Prisciantelli equaled the efforts of Ruiz with two tries apiece in each half.
Martín Bogado notched three tries with doubles going to Jerónimo Gómez Vara, Juan Pablo Castro, and Francisco Pisano Caride. Goal kickers Martín Elías and Tomas Suárez Folch, who played 40 minutes each, combined for 18 out of 22 conversions.
To their credit the Paraguayans were able to score one try with the scoreboard reading 113-nil at the hour mark. Elías Torres toed a loose ball ahead and it bounced up perfectly for the replacement scrumhalf to gather and dive over for the score, with Gonzalo Villalba adding the extras.
The Argentina XV now turn their attention to the host country. They face Uruguay ‘A’ in their final ARC match. Paraguay ‘A will take-on Brazil ‘A’ to close out their campaign.
