Uruguay to play RWC 2023 matches in Lille, Lyon and Nice

Uruguay is to play in three different French cities at Rugby World Cup 2023. Los Teros are the fourth confirmed participant in Pool A of the France-hosted tournament which starts in under two years time. The South Americans will play their matches in the cities of Lille, Lyon, and Nice.

Pool A is the host country’s group; as such, Uruguay will face the home team. This is a repeat of RWC 2015 when Uruguay faced England in Manchester. However, unlike that match the 2023 fixture between Uruguay and France will be entirely new. England and Uruguay met at RWC 2003 but France and Uruguay are yet to ever compete against each other in a test match.

The same applies to New Zealand and Uruguay. Their match will be the first between the sides. Italy is also a new opponent though the teams are to face-off next month in Italy as part of the 2021 November Internationals.

Uruguay’s opening contest of RWC 2023 will be on the final day of the opening week. Los Teros will face hosts France in Lille on September 14. It will be followed by another match against a Tier 1 opponent; Uruguay will play their second match of the tournament against Italy in Nice.

The South Americans will then travel north from the Mediterranean coast to Lyon. The city will host Uruguay’s third and fourth pool matches. The third will be on September 27 against the Africa 1 qualifier. Los Teros’ final match of the group will be against the current world no 2 New Zealand on October 05.
