It appears Ben Foden’s time with Rugby United New York has come to an end, at least for now. The former England star will bring his evasive skills to a different arena in the new year after signing on to join the cast of British television show Dancing On Ice.
Foden, 36, appeared to be revitalised in 2021 and enjoyed the best form of his three seasons in Major League Rugby. He started 14 games and scored four tries, the most memorable being the bonus-point try against NOLA in Round 18 that secured New York’s spot in the Eastern Conference Final.
When initially agreeing to re-sign with New York for the 2021 campaign, Foden indicated that this would be his last as a professional. He has yet, however, to formally announce his retirement.
This is not the first time that Foden will have been a cast member on a television show. He teamed up with fellow professional rugby players Levi Davis and Thom Evans on the celebrity edition of X Factor in October 2019. The Dancing On Ice season typically runs from January to March.
