Albi sign Jaguares XV lock Federico Gutíerrez

The number of Argentine players in France continues to grow. The latest to join a French professional club is Federico Gutíerrez. The 29-year-old has been recruited by Albi to play in the French third division, Nationale. Gutíerrez makes the move to Albi from his native Argentina.

Gutíerrez was a first choice player for Los Jaguares XV in the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). He started in the second-row in the SLAR Final. Los Jaguares XV were 36-28 winners over Peñarol. The team was undefeated during the SLAR season.

Other SLAR finalists have already departed Los Jaguares XV for Europe. Federico Wegrzyn now plays for Provence, Martín Vaca for Narbonne, Sebastián Cancelliere is joining Glasgow Warriors, and Tomás Albornoz plays for Benetton.

Though a repeat selection with the Argentina XV, Gutíerrez is uncapped at test level. He is a product of Universidad Nacional de San Juan in western Argentina and stands 2.01m (6’7″), weighing in at 114kg (250lbs).
