World Rugby confirms Pacific Four annual women’s tourney

World Rugby have provided further detail on the new annual women’s rugby competition involving Canada and the USA. Unveiled earlier this year, the four-team series will include New Zealand and Australia and has been dubbed the ‘Pacific Four’.

The competition will double as a qualifier for the new ‘WXV’ tiered global competition that will see the top three annual finishers in the Pacific Four competing in the top division of the WXV, with the fourth team playing in the WXV’s second level. The WXV is set to begin in 2023.

For sponsorship purposes the two tests between Canada and the USA in early November will be considered part of the Pacific Four in 2021. New Zealand and Australia will formally join the competition in 2022 to serve as a warm-up series for next year’s World Cup.
