Pieter Jansen signs short-term deal with Tel Aviv

New England Free Jacks hooker Pieter Jansen has signed a short-term contract with the Tel Aviv Heat. The 26-year-old South African will play in the pool stage of the Rugby Europe Super Cup before returning to the Free Jacks for the 2022 Major League Rugby season.

Jansen joined from the Golden Lions ahead of the 2021 campaign and immediately secured his position as first choice at No2 for New England. He played in all 16 matches, starting 14, and scored 4 tries.

Tel Aviv have now signed up two MLR players, the first being San Diego Legion flanker Jasa Veremalua. The inaugural Super Cup includes teams from Georgia, Russia, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands. Pool play begins on October 16 and runs through December 18.
