AJ MacGinty ruled out of World Cup Qualifier series

AJ MacGinty has been ruled out of the Americas 1 World Cup Qualifying series between the USA and Uruguay. The Eagles captain suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Sale Sharks in their English Premiership match against London Irish this past Saturday.

It’s a heavy blow for the USA, who will be wary of the threat posed by Los Teros. MacGinty was a late arrival prior to the first test against Canada and struggled to make an impact after coming on at halftime. In the second test it was a very different story with the flyhalf pulling the strings in a dominant victory.

It’s also disappointment for MacGinty, who had only just recovered from a knee injury suffered in June. The Eagles have named Will Magie to start in Saturday’s contest with Luke Carty providing cover on the bench. It was Magie who started in Newfoundland, with Carty playing fullback.
