Tomás Lezana is out of the remainder of the Rugby Championship. The Pumas flanker suffered a torn bicep which ruled him out of Saturday’s match against Australia in Townsville. The injury has also ruled him out of the final round match, also against the Wallabies.
Lezana joins a list of injured Pumas. He and Rodrigo Bruni are the sidelined back-rowers. Both players featured in the historic win over New Zealand in 2020. This past weekend saw Joaquín Oviedo making his test debut. Earlier in the year Juan Martín González also debuted. He started at flanker against Australia on Saturday.
The 27-year-old Lezana will now return to his club, the Scarlets in Wales. His next appearance will see him making his debut for the Welsh region in the United Rugby Championship (URC), the rebranded Pro 14.
The Rugby Championship will conclude next weekend. Los Pumas will then have three further test matches to finish 2021. The South Americans will face France, Ireland, and Italy in the November Internationals.
