Las Vegas test between USA and Ireland cancelled

The October 30 test between the USA and Ireland is officially off. Dubbed the Las Vegas Rugby Cup, the match was due to take place at Allegiant Stadium but ongoing border restrictions which prevent Irish fans from traveling to the game have put the plans on ice. Organizers hope to reschedule in 2022.

USA Rugby CEO Ross Young provided a statement in a media release:

“We’re obviously extremely disappointed to hear this match is unable to take place as scheduled in 2021. Learning about the impact of ever-changing travel restrictions was devastating, but unfortunately an all-too-common consequence for international sport over the past year and a half.

“Knowing that our Men’s Eagles will hopefully have the chance to host Ireland in a venue like Allegiant Stadium next year is encouraging and we look forward to seeing that event being confirmed and ultimately delivered as a bigger and better experience for everyone.”

The release also notes that there are no such restrictions in place that will prevent the October 23 match against New Zealand at FedEx Field from taking place. It was to be second match between the USA and Ireland this year, the latter winning decisively at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium in July.
