Agustín Ormaechea will not play for Uruguay next month. The veteran of 51 test caps and 2 Rugby World Cups has been ruled out of October’s test matches through injury. Ormaechea was the starting scrum-half for Los Teros in July. Uruguay defeated Chile and Brazil in Montevideo to secure the South America 1 spot for the October series against North America 1, the USA.
Uruguay vs USA is the Americas 1 decider. The winner of the two-match-series will qualify for RWC 2023 as Americas 1. That country will join Italy, New Zealand, Africa 1 and hosts France in Pool A. The pool matches will take place in Lille, Nice and Lyon.
The Americas 1 finals are to be played on October 02 and 09. The first match will be a home game for the USA. The Eagles host Los Teros at Infinity Park in Glendale, Colorado on Saturday October 02. The return fixture will be at Montevideo’s Estadio Charrúa on Saturday, October 09.
Agustín Ormaechea represents a key loss for Uruguay; his experience in invaluable. However, it comes with the return of another French-based scrum-half. Santiago Arata opted not to play against Chile and Brazil in July. He will now take his fresh legs with him to face the Eagles in October. His understudy is set to be Tomás Inciarte, a player who had an impressive 2021 in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) for finalists Peñarol.
