Zebre have signed Ramiro Valdés Iribarren from Argentina. The 21-year-old joins the Italian side as a Medical Joker. His contract will see him on the roster for the United Rugby Championship (URC), the rebranded Pro 14.
The move will be the player’s first experience abroad. Ramiro Valdés Iribarren arrives as cover for two players. Giosué Zilocchi is out thorugh injury while Eduardo Bello is on international duty with Los Pumas in the Rugby Championship. Bello is awaiting his first test cap.
The Medical Joker contract is until October 31. It comes with the possibility of extention. This is familiar with other Argentine players who have been recruited by Italian teams in the URC.
The 2021-2022 United Rugby Championship consists of 16 teams. They are the Bulls, Lions, Sharks, and Stormers (South Africa); Cardiff, Dragons, Ospreys, and Scarlets (Wales); Connacht, Leinster, Munster, and Ulster (Ireland, Northern Ireland); Edinburgh, and Glasgow Warriors (Scotland); Benetton, and Zebre (Italy).
Ramiro Valdés Iribarren is a product of Córdoba club La Tablada. He is also a native of Córdoba. Valdés Iribarren is 1.88m tall and weighs 118kg. His natural position is tight-head prop.
Having grown up playing rugby for La Tablada, he caught the eyes of the Córdoba High Performance Center. He captained Córdoba at u16 and u19 levels and played for Argentina u18’s and u20’s.
