Argentina XV rebound against Uruguay

The Argentina rebounded against Uruguay. Argentina’s next of XV were 28-19 winners against Uruguay. The result marked comeback as Uruguay had been leading 19-14 at half time. The win is the first for the Argentina XV in 2021. Earlier results saw the team losing against Chile in Santiago and Uruguay in July in Montevideo.

Uruguay’s strong start included the game’s opening two tries. Winger Gastón Mieres and center Nicolás Freitas touched down in the try zone to put Uruguay 12-0 up at the close of the opening quarter. Federico Favaro missed his first conversion attempt but landed his second and third.

The third Uruguayan try came 6 minutes from half-time. Scrum-half Tomás Inciarte was the scorer. Inciarte had a strong match, though Uruguay were unable to add to their points total following his try.

The Argentina XV scored their first try in the 31st minute. Prop Javier Coronel barged over to get the visitors on the board. Inciarte’s try came in response to that of Coronel. The Argentina XV then took control. There was time for Martín Bogado to decrease the deficit to five at half-time. His try was his second in five days; he also scored in Wednesday’s match against Chile.

The decisive period of play came in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Flanker Conrado Roura and hooker Bautista Bernasconi scored tries for the Argentina XV. Both were converted by replacement Martín Elías. The scored gave the Argentina XV a nine point lead.

No points came in the remainder of the contest. Despite losing, Uruguay will take great confidence out of their performance. They will have their European-based players join the roster in time for preparations to face the USA in October. Moreover, the Uruguay were strong in the set-piece; a critical area of play.
