The Seattle Seawolves have announced a second South African addition in as many days. Juan Mostert, 21, arrives from the Western Province age grade system on a deal that runs through the 2024 Major League Rugby season. He has previously earned selection to South Africa’s Schools, u19, and u20 sides.
Though primarily a flyhalf, Mostert is also comfortable at fullback. At 6’4″ (1.93m) he is a formidable ball carrier with strong distribution skills and a prodigious right boot. Most recently Mostert has been lining up for Maties of the University of Stellebosch in the Varsity Cup.
Seattle have now secured a dozen players on long-term contracts during the off-season including new signings Mostert and Dan Kriel. Meanwhile two 2020 Draft Picks have joined other programs during the off-season. Tommy Clark has moved to Rugby ATL’s Pathway 404, while Aaron Matthews will play for the American Raptors in the fall.
