Americas Rankings – September 12, 2021

The Americas Rankings is an exclusive on Americas Rugby News. The rankings compare the men’s test teams from throughout the Americas. Matches recognized as caps are used for the rankings. Teams yet to compete since the Americas Rankings began are listed with 30.00 points.

The current edition considers the result of two test matches. First, Saturday’s Rugby World Cup 2023 Qualifier between the USA and Canada in Glendale, CO. Second, Sunday’s Rugby Championship match between Argentina and New Zealand in Gold Coast, Australia.

The USA were 38-16 winners over Canada. The outcome is a rise in the rankings for the USA to 67.12 points from last week’s ranking of 66.70. This corresponds to a rise from 3rd back to 2nd in the Americas Rankings. In other words, the USA and Uruguay trade places. Canada do not fall but drop points from 62.51 to 62.09.

Argentina fell to a humbling 39-0 loss on Sunday. New Zealand scored all 39 points of the contest. This saw both a massive win and also saw an elite team, Los Pumas, being held scoreless. Despite completing a rare double, New Zealand did not gain points nor did Argentina lose points from the result.

The rankings will be updated again following next weekend’s international competition. Argentina take on New Zealand in Brisbane, Australia on Saturday. It is to be a round four match of the Rugby Championship.
