Scotland’s Mike Adamson to referee USA vs Canada series

Scotland’s Mike Adamson has been appointed to referee the upcoming Rugby Americas North World Cup Qualifying series between the USA and Canada. In unusual circumstances, he will take charge of both tests with ‘local’ officials handling the assistant referee and TMO duties.

Adamson, 37, played five seasons on the World Sevens circuit for Scotland before picking up the whistle in 2014. Earlier this year he took charge of England vs Italy at Twickenham, becoming the first Scotsman to referee a Six Nations match in 19 years. He also refereed this past season’s Guinness Pro 14 Final.

All six support staff have experience in Major League Rugby, with Canada’s Moe Chaudhry and USA trio Scott Green, Luke Rogan, and Derek Summers all part of the senior panel this season. Chris Assmus was a referee in 2018 and 2020, while Robin Kaluzniak has been an assistant referee on nine occasions.
