Diego Magno has departed the Houston SaberCats. The Uruguayan forward says goodbye to the SaberCats after three years. He played MLR for Houston from 2019-2021, doing so after joining from MVCC in Montevideo.
The 32-year-old Magno is Uruguay’s all-time most-capped player with 93 test caps. The most recent of his caps was earned in Uruguay’s RWC qualifying win over Brazil in July. In addition to holding the Uruguayan recrod for most caps, Magno also holds the Americas record. No player has won more caps while playing for a test side from the Americas.
Magno began his senior career in 2008. His lengthily career has included appearances in RWCs 2015 and 2019 and has seen him playing at flanker, N8 and second-row. He was mainly used at flanker for the Houston SaberCats.
Currently training at Uruguay’s High Performance Center, Magno is focused on helping Uruguay qualify for RWC 2023. It would mean a third RWC during his playing career for his country and Uruguay’s fifth overall.
Magno is one of 25 players involved in the ongoing preparations. Los Teros await the result of the upcoming RWC qualifiers between Canada and the USA. The winner of the North American two-match-series will take-on Uruguay while the runner-up will face Chile.
