Free Jacks lock Ronan McCusker signs for Doncaster

US-eligible second row Ronan McCusker has signed on with the Doncaster Knights for the 2021-22 RFU Championship season. He departs the New England Free Jacks after two seasons of Major League Rugby and one exhibition campaign with the club.

McCusker started in New England’s first ever match as a club against the Ontario (now Toronto) Arrows in October 2018. He would go on loan with Austin Elite in 2018, playing three games, and made just one appearance for the Free Jacks before the 2020 season was suspended. This past year the 26-year-old suited up on six occasions.

Originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland, McCusker qualifies for the USA through his mother who is from Philadelphia. This is his first foray into professional rugby in Europe though he played age-grade rugby for Ulster before making the move to Boston initially with Mystic River.
