Former USA flanker Scott LaValla recovering after surgery

Scott LaValla is on the mend from a serious neck injury and in good spirits according to Army Rugby. The former USA Eagles flanker underwent surgery to relieve pressure on a compressed spinal cord and is already on his feet again though a full recovery will take time.

LaValla was injured in a collision at a ruck while playing for Army against the Ramblin Jesters at the RugbyTown 7s this past weekend. He was left prone on the field and was stretchered off with no feeling or movement in his arms or legs.

It was a return to the game for the 33-year-old, who is now a medic and Staff Sergeant in the US Special Forces after retiring as a professional player with Stade Français in 2015. He represented the USA at the 2011 World Cup and won 33 test caps after debuting against Russia in 2010.
